St. Mary Star of the Sea

" Stella Maris, the Star of the Sea, has been a favorite title by which people of the sea have called on her in whose protection they have always trusted: the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Her son, Jesus Christ, accompanied his disciples in their vessels,  helped them in their work and calmed the storms.  And so the church accompanies seafarers, caring for the special spiritual needs of those who for various reasons live and work in the maritime world." Pope John Paul II.

 As Bob Bernreuter, a native Keywester and faithful parishioner, exclaims in the history: "Since it first shed its light in Key West, St. Mary's Church has, like a star of the sea to the wandering mariner, been a star of hope and comfort in times of despair and sorrow, and a star of joy to those who have lived in its teachings."

Anointing of the Sick

Please call the Rectory (305) 294-1018, to notify the priests, so that we may come together in prayer for healing and strength.

Anointing is not a sacrament only for those who are at the point of death but is intended for all those who are seriously ill. Consequently, what was formerly called "Extreme Unction" is now more properly called "The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick."

More has changed than the sacrament's name. Our experience of the revised Sacrament of the Anointing has brought about a change in the way we think about the sacrament.

For example:

1) This sacrament is a community celebration;
2) Sickness involves more than bodily illness;
3) And anointing heals us through faith.

Baptism & Marriages

These Sacraments can be received after proper preparation. Please call the rectory to make an appointment with a Priest.

Marriages require at least six months of preparation. Arrangements for Baptisms must be made two months in advance.

Perpetual Adoration

Jesus present in the Eucharistic, you are gift beyond measure!

We, the faithful of Saint Mary Star of the Sea, are blessed with this tremendous gift every hour of every day. At the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel, Jesus waits, patiently, expectantly, to shower on those who come to give him homage, the graces, mercy, forgiveness and help to live our lives in union with God’s Holy Will.

He calls on each of us and asks:

“Could you not watch with me for one hour?”
