THE FIRST PRINCIPLE AND FOUNDATION AS PARAPHRASED BY DAVID L. FLEMING, S.J.)
St. Ignatius begins his Spiritual Exercises with The First Principle and Foundation. While not typically thought of as a prayer, it still contains much that is worth reflecting on. The Goal of our life is to live with God forever. All the things in this world are gifts from God, In everyday life, then, we must hold ourselves in balance Our only desire and our one choice should be this: (Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, Feast Day is July 31. Saint Mary Star of the Sea has been influenced deeply by this spirituality through the generous service of the Jesuits from the founding of the Parish until the late 1970’s and again most recently by the presence of Fr. Seamus Ward, S. J.) |
